Seventy-five Additional Colorado Springs Kingdom Service Opportunities Coming in January
Whether you are interested in and able to commit to
• as little as one hour / one time (with no further commitments ever ...)
• or ten to forty hours per week / for for the rest of your life ...
• or anything in between ...
God will be watching as you partner with Him in advancing the Kingdom of God,
and your life will become filled with exactly the same peace and joy that Jesus
experienced daily as He served people into the Kingdom of God at every
opportunity. Remember, God could have done anything He wanted before He went to
the cross. He chose to serve people like us. Do you suppose He knew something most people,
believers and unbelievers alike, don't know?
How about this church adopting a school district:
We all know that educators and the support staff of our local schools are some of the most under-appreciated
people in our cities. A few years ago, the staff of my church banded together to change this. Three times
a year we provided a treat for all of our school district employee's (administration, receptionists, teachers,
custodians, lunch staff, and bus drivers). We served a total of over 2,500 employees. We started our approach
with a welcome back to school expression of kindness. At the start of school year, each employee receives an
individually wrapped Krispy Kreme donut. Then at Christmas we gave each employee a large candy cane, and on
Valentines day we assembled a medium sized decorated bag of assorted candies. Each item has a simple card attached:
We just wanted you to know that we appreciate all that you do and the positive
impact you have in the lives of our children!
Thank You For All You Do!
Love,
Gateway Baptist Church
After doing this for a few years we began to build trust with the district and then one year we were asked
by the school district if they could rent our facilities for their annual school year kick off.
We told them NO.
We refused to rent the facility to them, but we were more than happy to let them use our site for free. We
were so excited to have them on our campus. They were excited to come and we were excited to have them. We
contacted them a week later and offered to provide a free early breakfast for all who wanted to come and we
also provided free drinks and snacks during all of their breaks. We provided volunteers take care of every
detail so that they could relax and focus on a great start. They were blown away by our hospitality and we
simply reminded them that it was God’s kindness—we were just spreading it around. We thanked them for letting
us serve them.
As the event approached we were praying for all the employees and that they would have a good experience on
our campus. A week before the event date I was contacted by School Superintendent and he communicated that
the school board voted to give our church the opportunity of welcoming them to our campus and even scheduled
the opening minutes of the gathering to communicate why we do what we do. We took that time to very simply
say that we really do appreciate their hard work and that we wanted them to know in a very practical way
that God loves you and that we as a church love you and appreciate all that you do to change lives. We took
the remainder of our time to share inspiring stories of peoples lives who had been changed by a teacher who
cared and loved them and the we hoped that they had experience God love on our campus. We also let all the
teachers know that if there was anything they needed or any help we could provide for them in their classrooms
that we would find it and get for them. I can not recount the number of calls we received from teachers who
needed reading couches blankets, book shelves, books, school supplies for needy children, mentors and the list
goes on. The simple acts of kindness opened doors to our schools that were simply not accessible before and
we continue to have a great relationship with our schools and school district.
We involved more than 250 people in our church in the packaging, delivery and in praying for the people
receiving the gifts that would go to the school district office, schools and employees. They still have a
solid ongoing relationship with the school district and teachers in providing resources and help as it relates
to their needs. This SE [servant evangelism] event has allowed us to gain access to the schools and has
allowed us to conduct other
SE events on our school campuses that we would not have been available to us. Such as our High School and
Middle School tailgate parties. These tailgate parties take place at the schools just outside their stadiums
in the parking lot. We are allowed to provide free hotdogs, hamburgers, cookies, and drinks for anyone who
wants to come. I can not tell how many times our people are asked who are you and why are you doing this?
We were blown away when the schools that we work with asked us if it would be ok if they announced our
tailgate parities during their Friday morning announcements. We typically serve about 300 – 400 hotdogs and
hamburgers per game. We have about 30 people involved on site helping to serve and greet people. All the
meats, drinks and snacks are provided by donations through people in our church. We meet countless students
and parents from our community. It is an awesome and fun SE event.
Peace and joy come from giving
